You can keep everything exactly the same while you still have access to your Skidmore email, which is for 6 months after graduation. However, when you lose access to your Skidmore email, you no longer have access to your Skidmore Domains cPanel.<\/p>\n<p>You<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0then have\u00a0a number of\u00a0options, with the ultimate goal to\u00a0transition your account to one that is no longer managed by Skidmore or connected to your Skidmore email.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The easiest option is to migrate your site off of Skidmore Domains directly to Reclaim Hosting. This option\u00a0keeps everything exactly the same on the back end, but just moves your content over automatically\u00a0from the Skidmore Domains servers to the Reclaim Hosting Customer servers.\u00a0Reclaim Hosting will give you the option to purchase your own domain name (so it will no longer be yourdomain.domains.skidmore.edu) and it will migrate the site for you \u2013 easy peasy.\u00a0<b>You don&#8217;t have to do any of the migration\u00a0work yourself.\u00a0<\/b>After that point, your contact for troubleshooting will be &#8220;support@reclaimhosting.com.&#8221;\u00a0<em>The most popular plan through Reclaim is $30\/year for 2GB of space, which is a very competitive deal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Other options are to\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">download your\u00a0entire site to store on your computer, move everything over to another hosting provider, or\u2014if you use WordPress\u2014to export your site&#8217;s content, import it to WordPress.com for free, and re-do some of the formatting that doesn&#8217;t transfer over. (<a href=\"https:\/\/dlinq.domains.skidmore.edu\/portfolio\/when-you-graduate-migrating-your-website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">More info here.<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<h1 id=\"installing-wordpress\" class=\"sectionedit2\">Using Reclaim Hosting<\/h1>\n<p>Skidmore Domains is hosted through <a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimhosting.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reclaim Hosting<\/a>, a company that started out of the University of Mary Washington. Through our special partnership with them,\u00a0you\u2019re eligible to have\u00a0your\u00a0domain and content automatically migrated to a full hosting account for free for the first year. <a href=\"https:\/\/dlinq.domains.skidmore.edu\/portfolio\/migrate-your-Skidmore Domains-site-free-hosting-for-a-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">See this link for more details.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just sign up for your own domain, submit a support ticket, and they\u2019ll do the\u00a0migration for you. You won\u2019t have to\u00a0provide\u00a0any login information since they control the servers on both sides.<\/p>\n<p>To sign up for your own Reclaim Hosting domain:<\/p>\n<p>1. Login to domains.skidmore.edu.<\/p>\n<p>2. You will be given the option to 1) register a new domain, 2) transfer your domain from another registrar, or 3) use your existing domain and update your nameservers.<a href=\"http:\/\/domains.skidmore.edu\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/domainname.001-e1466541057746.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-425\" src=\"http:\/\/domains.skidmore.edu\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/domainname.001-e1466541057746-1024x561.png\" alt=\"domainname.001\" width=\"648\" height=\"355\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If your\u00a0site&#8217;s URL ends in\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">domains.skidmore.edu<\/span>, and\u00a0you\u00a0have never used a different URL or purchased hosting from somewhere else, the <strong>Register a new domain<\/strong>\u00a0option allows you to get your own personal\u00a0domain with Reclaim Hosting (outside of Skidmore Domains). Your site will\u00a0no longer be located at &#8220;yoursite.domains.skidmore.edu&#8221; and you&#8217;ll be able to purchase\u00a0a new URL.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u00a0have purchased (or intend to purchase) a URL from a different\u00a0hosting company, but still want your\u00a0site to be hosted with Reclaim Hosting, select the\u00a0<strong>I will use my existing domain\u00a0and update my\u00a0nameservers <\/strong>option. Your site will\u00a0be migrated to a\u00a0personal\u00a0Reclaim Hosting account, but then you\u00a0will\u00a0have to update the information that tells\u00a0the other\u00a0hosting company (that you got your URL from) where your\u00a0site is located. It&#8217;s possible to get\u00a0your hosting and URL from two separate companies, but it\u2019s often easier and cheaper to get them together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you already have a\u00a0site that&#8217;s hosted somewhere else, and want to transfer everything to a personal Reclaim Hosting account, select\u00a0<strong>Transfer your domain from another registrar<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1 id=\"installing-wordpress\" class=\"sectionedit2\">Other Hosting Providers<\/h1>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you don\u2019t want to continue with Reclaim and would rather use\u00a0a different hosting company, you can download all your site files independently, purchase a URL, and upload the files to\u00a0your\u00a0new domain\u00a0through <a href=\"http:\/\/domains.skidmore.edu\/docs\/#setting-up-ftp\">FTP<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You will lose access\u00a0to\u00a0your Skidmore Domains domain six months after you graduate (or otherwise discontinue) from Skidmore.
